Ebook Download | Geology of Oregon (5th Edition) | The book reflects the Orrs' respective roles in geology and paleontology at the University of Oregon that began back in 1967. This is a subject they obviously know well but, more importantly, have made clear and interesting. Brisk text and outstanding diagrams, photos, maps and drawings provide a 'visual' understanding of geologic processes in a familiar context. The reader gets a look at how accretion, subduction, extension, vulcanism, etc., shaped Oregon. The 'suggested reading' at the end of the chapters and the bibliography in the back are invaluable to anyone wanting to know more.

Ebook Download | The Routledge Companion to Social Theory (Routledge Companions) | The series of Routledge Companions are some of the most consistently useful that I've found, and this new volume on Social Theory is no exception. As part of my graduate work, I just took a comprehensive survey class covering social theory from Boas to Foucault and beyond. Having just taken the class, I was anxious to see how well this volume could summarize the thousands of pages of reading I did over the semester.
My hope was that it would give me just enough information on main theories and ideas so that if I needed to refresh my memory of a given idea or theorist at some point in the future, I would be able to do so quickly and easily. For example, I've not had much use for Bourdieu in my own work, but he comes up frequently in articles that I read and I know that at some point, the ideas behind, say, the 'habitus' are not going to be fresh in my mind. Just as I had hoped, the Routledge Companion to Social Theory has me covered; they give just enough information to aid one's understanding, but not so much as to be overwhelming. In short, I see this volume as coming in very handy down the road.
If you're brand new to social theory, this could be a good place to start. While there is no substitute to reading the canonical texts of the field, it can be intimidating to jump right in, especially if you don't have any background. This book will provide the necessary background to approach the more difficult readings by the theorists themselves. In sum, I highly recommend this to anyone wishing to access a handy reference book for what is the diverse and ever-changing field of social theory.

Ebook Download | Spin Geometry | As a graduate student in mathematics I survived on this encyclopedic work. Anyone interested in differential geometry or differential topology will eventually need something in this book. Prerequisites are graduate-level algebra and analysis, and some topology and differential geometry. He introduces the subject of pseudodifferential operators and Sobolev spaces, but it's easy to get lost in that part unless you first read Shubin's book "Pseudodifferential operators and Spectral theory". Also, the quick shuffling of Lie group information can be disheartening if you're not used to it. Harvey's book "Spinors and Calibrations" is a more elementary book if this is the case.
This book touches on many important topics like the Atiyah-Singer Index Theorem, the Bochner method, Riemann-Roch, and mathematical physics, but you will probably want to supplement your reading with individual books on each of these topics.

Ebook Download | Core Java Data Objects | Java Data Objects (JDO) is a persistence framework to save Java objects to a datastore. The example code shows you how to create, read, update, and delete a persistent object using the JDO API. The book goes through the JDP API, especially the five main interfaces needed. The metadata, an xml file, that is needed for JDO is make clear in one chapter and the various options in the JDO xml file are explained to show you how to store your type of objects. The explanation of first-class and second-class object could have been longer. It seems like a more important topic and the brief mention in the book.
Part of the book shows you how to develop applications with JDO and the architecture scenarios where you should or should not use JDO. The third part of the book covers using JDO and J2EE application. The authors argue that JDO in most situations offers a better solution over EJB entity beans to store your objects or to use JDO and some direct JDBC. Practical examples showing how JDO can be applied to existing applications
The authors also have a real world case study that provides best practices and tips for your projects. The only part missing from the book, are using JDO implementations, which makes the examples impossible to test without using an implementation from one on the JDO implementers. I would recommend this book for anyone trying to learn JDO, but more information would be needed to use an actual JDO implementation.

Ebook Download | J. N. Reddy, "An Introduction to Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis" | There is this one thing I know. When you are learning from a superior intelligence you can find that out pretty quick. My greed for calculus and math finds an apt expression here. The way he presents non linear finite elements is unparalled.
There is another thing I have learnt. The people who can explain things clearly, are the ONLY ones who know it. And they are not too many, when it comes to horribly complicated problems, besides. Math cuts out a lot of verbiage, in understanding a problem. A simple math problem when described in words could go on and on and on. If you have a apetite for calculus and a craving for numerical analysis, you would be a poorer man if you didnt have this book. If you dont, well you are not good enough to pick up finite elements anyhow, forget about non linear analysis.
One small note. This is just pertinent to me. I dont write code in fortran so parts of the book were not of much use to me. But the concept is laid out very well. I would have loved it if the code was in C++. But its okay. If I were to just copy code, that would be shabby learning anyhow. So it works out fine.

It guides you through the various approaches to psychotherapy, giving you all the details necessary for you to comprehend each method fully as well as to compare the methods with one another. The comparison becomes even easier as Corey presents the case of "Stan" at the end of each chapter and demonstrates how each approach would deal with his dilemma. I think this book is interesting for anyone who likes psychology and psychotherapy, but is a must for people looking to go into the profession of psychotherapy in order to attain a broad perspective about techniques and approaches that may be employed according to one's personality and style, as well as each unique client's needs..

Ebook Download | Illness and the Limits of Expression | What a magnificent, literate and thoughtful book. We all will face the terrible fact of debilitating illness at some point in our lives and how we do it and what it means will become especially important to us then. We'll turn to the bookshelves of our local Barnes & Nobles only to find books that entreat us to "act normal," to "live life to its fullest" and to "think positively," all homilies written by those who don't know -- or can't write -- any better. This book, the second masterpiece written by Conway, gives us a deeper look into why we, as Americans, desperately want to avoid the true nature of illness and its devastating consequences. It also looks at the very structure of our language, our literature and our lives to dig into the deeper literary reasons why we can never confront the true meaning of disease.
In its simplest terms, Conway maintains, the very structure of our language and our literary traditions make it all but impossible to really describe what serious illness is rtruly like. She plumbs the literature to find examples of writers who can capture even a little bit of the experience in words. From Virginia Wolff through Andrew Solomon she selects those few examples to examine the broad literature and the common culture of illness. It's an astounding and thought provoking -- and beautifully written -- read!

Ebook Download | The Psychopath Test: A Journey Through the Madness Industry | In the book, Ronson takes us into the fascinating world of psychopaths by speaking to the experts and having amusing conversations with the psychopaths themselves. His conversations with psychopaths provide the book's best moments. Ronson comes across as anxious and easy to manipulate, which really gets the psychopaths to open up with him. He's also quite funny, which makes for some great interviews.
One in a hundred people are psychopaths, and those who aren't locked up in prisons can be hard to identify if you don't know what you're looking for. The book includes the actual test developed by Candadian psychologist Robert Hare that determines whether a person is a psychopath. Thankfully, I passed the test and it's quite fun to take it and see how you score on the traits typically seen in psychopaths

Ebook Download | Elements of Positional Evaluation: How the Pieces Get Their Power | Odd to think about, but chess books can be classified by genre. Of these, there are subgenres. Opening books may take the broad view, such as John Watson's two volumes on 1.e4 and 1.d4, or they may focus on a particular opening or variation of an opening, such as the Worrall system of the Ruy Lopez. There are books on positions, tactics, endgames; the occasional more "wordy" type, dealing with ways of thinking about the game. What distinguishes "Elements of Positional Evaluation" is the theoretical treatment. Heisman conditions evaluation, at least initially, upon the geometry of the board and the way the pieces move. These are the "elements," a theory concerning how the pieces control squares in space and time. This might be thought of as the physics of chess, and this is the first book, to my knowledge, which considers the game at this atomic level. The book is not limited to theory, and practical applications of the elements, such as the interaction of pieces in various game phases, are examined. But most notable is the fundamental reduction of the game to an understanding of how pieces exert power. This is a remarkable book, recommended to anybody with an interest in the game of chess.

Ebook Download | GarageBand '09 | I am perhaps older than many folks trying to learn to use "computer music" technology and software as a newbie. All I really wanted to do was record some piano/keyboard, do some editing, and share the results via e-mail and maybe, someday, make a cd of some favorites to share with family.
I've bought books and DVDs and tried to learn to use several other of the simpler products available, mostly without success, though I have been able to use Audacity to a reasonable level. But Garageband, and particularly this book, has been wonderful. One is walked step by step though most of the capabilities of the program. If you do all the initial actions and then do the "practice", or more repetitious activities in each area you do get reasonable competence with the software. And Garageband certainly does everything I wanted to do and more. I've learned about things I didn't even know one could do - e.g.I didn't have any idea what a "podcast" was. This book is quick, fun and obviously extremely well thought out and executed/edited. I am very glad I bought it.

He gives the straight facts in a way that makes perfect sense and doesn't bore you to death. Understanding resonance is, I think, one of the most important aspects of organic, and you're doomed if you don't. Beware, this book does not replace your textbook or instructor. Ebook Download | Basic Questions of Philosophy: Selected "Problems" of "Logic" | Heidegger gave this lecture course in the Winter semester 1937-1938 while he was finishing his second masterpiece, Contributions to Philosophy. It elaborates many of the themes of that difficult work in a more lucid style. (Unfortunately not all of the themes of Contributions are elaborated here, e.g. "the last god" is noticeably absent.) Herrmann, the editor of the German edition of both volumes, recommends it as the best introduction to Contributions. However, even if one is not interested in that other work, this lecture course is an excellent (also clear, concise) example of the later Heidegger.
About the translation--although no translation is perfect and Heidegger's German presents many difficulties, the translators do an admirable job. One criticism however: they do not distinguish "Sein" from Heidegger's other spelling "Seyn" in their translation, choosing to translate both by the generic "Being." (Other translators will distinguish the two as Be-ing/Being or Beyng/Being.)

Ebook Download | Measure, Integral and Probability, 2nd edition | This book is, as it were, manna from heaven for the aspiring financial mathematician, especially someone without a first degree in mathematics or a mathematically-based subject. The only prerequisites are a very good understanding of set-theory and some knowledge of the theory of continuous functions (at the level of a first course in real analysis, e.g. Apostol's Mathematical Analysis). The development is patient and there is sufficient help for the beginner (full solutions at the back, and, for practice, unproved propositions in the text with proofs at chapter-ends). The coverage is not overwhelming and anyone with the requisite preparation can digest the book in a term's work. Measure theory on its own is an incredibly dry subject. The authors do a great job of covering the essentials in about 300 pages, while making the subject interesting and applicable at the same time. A very attractive feature of the book is its brief focus on mathematical-finance applications. Most chapters end with a small section on such applications which is very useful for someone simultaneously studying mathematical finance. Particularly, it shows how to conceptualize financial models measure-theoretically. A very useful little volume indeed!

Ebook Download | Philosophy in a Time of Terror: Dialogues with Jurgen Habermas and Jacques Derrida | This book succeeds in two respects. First, both interviews are significant in that they address the subject matter in an analytically rigorous manner, enticing the reader to think-which is by no means a disposable end, in an era of CNN-inspired "analysis"-. The interview with Derrida is particularly enlightening, actually *forcing* you to think "otherwise", to quote another brilliant mind, Foucault. Second, Borradori accomplishes the difficult task of putting in place the reflexions of both philosophers in the context of their own philosophical work, tackling the most important issues relevant to their "way of problematizing", their views on reason, modernity, history, the international context, war & conflict, violence, etc.
This book, of course, does not suffice as a Habermas/Derrida "reader", but it certainly works as a practical exercise in trying to think about the present in ways and words that are not commonplace. Whether you actually agree with Habermas or Derrida is unimportant, what's important is that you have at least given the issue some thought. I think this book is a small, yet thoroughly enjoyable and worthwile addition to anyone's collection, be it an intellectual or a regular person.

Ebook Download | Insect Movement | This fascinating collection of technical papers present background and original research in the areas of flight physiology, resource finding, migration, dispersal, genetics, and range changes. Depending upon your background, or desire to grapple with the details, some of the papers are quite technical; such as the math behind Britton et al. discussion of deterministic metapopulation models, or chemistry behind proline use in Goldsworthy and Joyce.
The papers cover a variety of taxonomic classes. I was intrigued by Hardie et al description of odour plumes "as cooked spaghetti pouring out of a chimney" .. when describing, for example, fruit fly orienting to an odor source. Dingle's description of wing polymorphism of the soapberry bug was a fascinating exploration of selection of phenotypes. Franks description of self organization of army ant swarm raids was a pure joy. The technology ranged from Srygley and Oliveira tracking butterflies by boat in Panama, to Riley and Osborne's use of harmonic radar to track foraging bumblebees. Also impressive was Drake et al description of network of data gathering light traps, insect monitoring radar, and GIS habitat assessment, to track locust movement in Australia. Overall a good technical collection.

The relatively stable state of the solar system indicates the planets will not fly out of their orbits. What types of system are stable enough to support life? However, it is probable that mars will eventually lose its orbit and depart the solar system. Small changes in the initial conditions could eventually disrupt the orbital pattern of Mars. How would this be possible? small gravitation distrubances from neighboring planets combined with a slight wobbly rotations could cause significant fluctuations in orbits and orientations of the planet, says, Dr. Wisdom.
The solar system is chaotic. The determinism that the solar system will remain stable indefinitely is contradicted by the conclusions of chaos. Chaos suggests the system will not remain stable indefinitely even though the mechanism seems to be stable. Chaos introduces an element of randomness into complex systems.

Ebook Download | Air Traffic Control | As many have noted, the CD-ROM does have some software problems. However, this review is meant for the buyer who is interested in the AT-SAT and Air Traffic Control with minimal ATC knowledge or training. For this said person, this is the book for you. Contrary to the previous reviews, I would highly recommend this guide to a person who needs to acquaint themselves to this material.
While studying for the AT-SAT, I purchased other study books to prepare myself for the test. This book, was the eye-opener and is training me well for the test. The book includes a thorough glossary, appendix, and explanation to the ATC career field. Regardless of the CD-ROM's minute quirks, this study guide will equip you with the tools you need for this test! You just need a little tolerance to the stupidity of small software problems. (Which, to be realistic--occurs far less frequently than other regular computer software programs frequently used by the public.)

Ebook Download | Vladimir Vapnik, "The Nature of Statistical Learning Theory" | This book is meant to be a popularization, of sorts, of the material covered in the considerably more formal and detailed treatment, "Statistical Learning Theory." Some of the other reviewers have commented on how Vapnik's subjective perspective is not as evenhanded as they would like. However, I would not have it any other way. I really enjoyed the fact that he has an organic understanding of the field and he expresses his opinions about it in a relatively unvarnished way; it is undeniable that he played a central role in it. Most readers of this kind of thing should be mature enough to deal with the subjectivity that an author must have in talking about the relevance of their own life's work. He is a bit dismissive of work that he believes is either competitive or is derivative/overlapping with his own (as other reviewers pointed out, this includes nearly all of the American work in the 1980's and 90's).
The benefits of such subjectivity is a framing of the problems of machine learning in the context of the grand scheme of mathematics/statistics. The book has many insights that would usually be reserved only for lectures. Since it is subjective, it is not PC and he gives his (rather valuable) opinions and insights. I really appreciated that. The connections to philosophical work in induction (Kant, Popper) and the formalization of this into a study of statistical induction was a brilliant section, though it was clear that the argument was more a interpretation for the risk formulation than an encoding of the philosophical texts. You either find that sort of thing interesting or you don't.
In summary, a unique portal into understanding Vapnik's extremely insightful point of view on the subject. He has obviously thought very deeply about topics that he's writing about, and it came through.

Ebook Download | Designing Audio Power Amplifiers | I only recently encountered Bob Cordell's work and was lucky to pick up a copy of this book during a recent trip over to the US. This book is an important addition to the body of work on amplifier design. It complements popular and well-regarded books by Self and Duncan (which I also have), yet provides further enlightenment on a number of very useful topics.
Cordell is strong on simulation and measurement, and has studied the causes of (and effects of) dynamic crossover distortion in a wide range of output stages. I like the way that he is even-handed about subjectivism versus optimism; there's too much dogma on both sides of that debate. Cordell's approach is "if you think this aspect of amplifier behaviour is a problem, here's how to fix it". This book has rekindled my own interest in power amplifiers and I will be referring to it regularly. I recommend it highly.

Ebook Download | Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Business Intelligence Unleashed | The book also covers topics I have not seen covered elsewhere. It covers Protecting SharePoint with Advanced Antivirus and Edge Security Solutions, Virtualizing SharePoint Components, SharePoint Foundation Versus SharePoint Server, and Safeguarding Confidential Data in SharePoint. The chapter I found most useful so far was SharePoint Foundation Versus SharePoint Server.
The biggest con is that the topics are not as in-depth as they need to be sometimes for field level use. An example would be the upgrade coverage. They cover a vanilla upgrade, but most upgrades are not going to go that smoothly. They list the security accounts needed but do not go into detail on how or where to use them. Another missing topic is setting up the secure store service. They mention it when covering Excel Services, but completely miss it when they discuss configuring PerformancePoint. They never cover how to configure it, and without it the services are useless. All in all I recommend this book for anyone involve with SharePoint.

Ebook Download | Alessandro Del Sole, "Visual Basic 2010 Unleashed" | This is when books like "Visual Basic 2010 Unleashed" come in to fill the void. It serves the purpose of the "Software User's Guide" used to serve. It is as much about .NET platform 4.0 and Visual Stuido 2010 as it is about the Visual Basic Language. I am a software engineer and architect very experience in C++ and also have been programming with .NET using different languages. I still found this book very useful in two aspects: first, this book covers all aspects of VB and .NET so I can use it to be introduced to newer technologies, such as LINQ and XPS which I never good chance to learn. Secondly, As I went through the chapters of this book, I was able to pick up bits and pieces of information and helpful hints even in the area that I'm familiar with. For example, I've been using Visual Studio 2010 for months and having been missed out the nifty new "Generate From Usage" tool all the time until I learned it reading this book.
The author skillfully explains his topic in a easy to understand language and well though out examples. It goes beyond telling how things work but also explain why, and in many cases with a historical perspective. Both experienced and new developers should be able to benefit from this book.

Ebook Download | Quantum theoretic machines: What is thought from the point of view of physics | This is the fourth book by August Stern where he makes a compelling argument for the fundamental unity of logical and physical processes. As a result of this unified model he is able to then explore cognitive processes (logic, implication, learning) at the same level in which we explore fundamental processes of physics. Additionally, he points out that quantum theory and the associated quantum logic are not enough to model cognitive processes. He asserts these are necessary, but how do cognitive processes result from physical processes? He proposes a new matrix logic model that takes into account modern physical theory and cognitive theory. He observes that the physics behind quantum logic requires reversibility, but thought is not necessarily reversible. Simply said, how many of us can unthink a thought that we have already thought?
He also goes on to use this mathematical model to make predictions that are worth trying to explore. He gives explanations based on sound physics and the material is not for one who has a faint heart. One could wish that he would go a bit deeper into the details, but then the book would become a treatise on modern string theory and quantum field theory as well. I recommend a strong background in physics and logic to get a full appreciation of the concepts. In any case it is a fascinating read. I would recommend it to anyone interested in cognitive processes particularly modelling them, and if you have a willingness to do the mathematics then you will get more out of it.

Ebook Download | The Pleasures of Probability | Professor Isaac has written a book for those interested in learning about probability. It is at a high school algebra level although knowledge of calculus could be helpful at times. He starts with the now famous Monte Hall problem and provides the most lucid explanation I have seen to date. This is a great way to introduce important probability notions such as sample space and probability models for the sample outcomes. Deals mainly with discrete probability which is easiest to understand and yet rich with applications in gambling and other areas.
Important theory is presented but without the detailed mathematical proofs. Covers the gambler's ruin, geometric probability, Monte Carlo methods and some statistical decision theory. He also presents both the frequentist (throughout the text)and the Bayesian paradigms (Chapter 4) for statistical inference. Examples of the application of probability to statistical inference is nicely treated in Chapter 15. The deeper material on Markov chains and Brownian motion are relegated to the last two chapters (16 and 17). The exposition is excellent throughout and many good references are provided for readers who want to learn more or delve deeper into the theory.

Ebook Download | Relax your neck, liberate your shoulders: The ultimate exercise program for tension relief | This book is entertaining, informative, intellegent, helpful, challenging and instructive on how to reduce tension and increase relaxation. Eric Franklin uses his words and pictures to easily teach us how to reduce neck and shoulder pain within a few minutes and sometimes just by using our imagination. You don't have to go to a gym to do his exercises; all you need is the time and enough space to sit, stand or lie down. This book is truly one that you will want to refer to on a regular basis to continue your journey of relaxation in your daily life.

Someone having general knowledge of ATM can reach almost an intermediate-expert level after completing this book. It provides a smooth flow in reading and understanding of the subject. The frequently defined acronyms, easily-reachable cross-references and detail comparison of products of ATM vendors certainly add value to the book. A little off-date but it certainly is a "must read".

Ebook Download | Plane Answers to Complex Questions: The Theory of Linear Models | This book is very suitable for graduate students wishing to learn some linear algebra. It covers a lot of more recent topics such as mixed models.
While Dr. Christensen's writing is very clear, a lot more examples and/or exercises would definitely help to illustrate his points. For example, in section 2.4 he claims that "it's immaterial to use MSE or MLE [as] they will lead to identical confidence intervals and tests for sigma^2". This can be easily made as an exercise in chapter 3, where he discusses hypothesis testing. At least so that the students can see his point well. Moreover, I would appreciate it if he put like 5 or 6 exercises that make the students integrate every aspect they learned so far (like section 4.3 exercises). Practically, everything past chapter 9 is theoretical. I would appreciate it if he puts examples and/or exercises.

Ebook Download | Craniosacral therapy | Au contraire Mr. Deveno, everyone knows the cranial rhythmic impulse, like the pulse rate and blood pressure, varies from time to time and from person to person and from measurer to measurer. But this is an aside. A recent article in the respected Journal of Pediatrics, showed that osteopathic manipulation (which included CST) helped in cases of otitis media (i.e. ear infections). What makes CST controversial is the theory that the cranial sutures are being moved and that cerebrospinal fluid motion is being influenced. This is the theory behind CST. For all we know the working mechanism of CST could be completely different. Upledger's book is well written and gives practical advice on the treatment of patients, as well as the current working theory behind CST. He includes not only his variation of the vault maneuvers, but also the classical vault maneuvers developed by Sutherland.By the way it should be noted that Upledger taught CST at MSU-College of Osteopathic Medicine which is consistently ranked as a top 50 medical school by US News and World Report.

Ebook Download | Craniosacral therapy II: Beyond the dura | This book is not so much a book on Craniosacral therapy technique as an indepth anatomy textbook. Upledger explores in great detail each of the cranial nerves, the structure of the neck (focusing much attention on the hyoid bone), and the TMJ. He uses medical terminology and an information-dense writing style. Fortunately, there are well labeled diagrams on nearly every page to correspond with the text and illustrate what is being discussed. I found several useful pieces of information to improve the use of Craniosacral therapy with my clients, but I had to search to find these pieces. This is a book I will have to read over and over--not necessarily because I enjoyed the book, but because it has so much information it is difficult to absorb in one reading. I recommend the book if Craniosacral work is a significant part of your bodywork practice and you need more information for working in clinical situations. Be warned! It is not a book you can just keep on your shelf and pull out to quickly look something up in the middle of a therapy session. It is a book to be studied.

Ebook Download | Bursting the Limits of Time: The Reconstruction of Geohistory in the Age of Revolution | This enormous book (well over 700 large pages) tells the story of the origins of geology in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The term "geology" gets invented, by de Luc, about halfway through. The main theme of the book is that the development of the field was complex and personal, not a conflict between emerging "science" and sourly reactionary "religion." In fact, some of the main contributors, including de Luc, were highly religious, to the point of seeking geological proof of Noah's flood. Rudwick repeats on every possible occasion that religion was not a fundamentalist reactionary force. (The message certainly is needed, but this and many, many other repetitions of points get slightly wearisome.)
So why am I, an anthropologist specializing in traditional uses of plants and animals, reading a geology book? Basically, because this is one of the best books I've ever seen on how people develop concepts of the natural world. It shows how people thrashed around, made false starts, mixed brilliant insights with sad errors, slowly came to imagine the unimaginable, argued over silly points. Rudwick avoids like the plague, and routinely denounces and disproves, the simplistic history-of-science fairy tales we all know too well: the Lone Genius, the Evil Opponents, the Triumph of Truth, the Superiority of My Country's Science Over Yours, and so on. Geology developed more slowly and with more false starts than many sciences, and many people had a hand in it; none had a monopoly on right answers or on wrong ones.
Much of Rudwick's narrative has the fascination of a mystery novel. Slowly building throughout the book, for example, is the recognition of geological evidence that something unimaginably strange happened to Europe not long ago. The geologically sophisticated reader will know that it was the Ice Age--those vast successive glaciations. The geologists of the early 19th century simply could not imagine that. They were more and more mystified by evidence of a vast "catastrophe" unlike anything ever seen in history, but they were unable to conceive of the appalling reality. Rudwick promises a second huge volume; hopefully it will get us to the arguments over vast glaciations. I don't know how geologists or historians of science will see this book, but I do know that any anthropologist, psychologist or phenomenological philosopher interested in how people think about time, rocks, and the natural world should give it a look.
