Strategic Concepts of Go

Ebook Download | Strategic Concepts of Go | I was a beginner the first time I read this book and it literally went right over my head. In fact, I actually couldn't finish it because I lacked sufficient knowledge and experience for it to make practical sense to me. This is really one of the mysteries of Go - how can a game with so simple a set of rules have so many levels of skill and understanding.

The second half of the book is consumed in the presentation and explanation of some 72 problems, few of which are straightforward. Explanations are very careful, however, covering many alternatives. These are quite different from the 'how does white save his two stones' kind of problems, and will quickly get you thinking about the entire board, rather than just simple action. I found the second reading left me with a better sense of how the opening game segues into the middle game and as well as a feel for the timing of certain moves. Who should read this book? Someone with a couple of hundred games under their belt who is in the 1 to 10 ki ranking range should be able to understand the material. I think the book would remain valuable to any serious player throughout their playing career. I certainly expect to reread it several more times.

Organic Chemistry I as a Second Language: Translating the BasicConcepts (2nd Edition)

Ebook Download | Organic Chemistry I as a Second Language: Translating the Basic Concepts (2nd Edition) | I did not understand resonance structures at all using other textbooks. After reading this book. I feel like I am a master. I wished all college textbooks were at the caliber of this tiny little book. Klein is an excellent teacher. He gives the straight facts in a way that makes perfect sense and doesn't bore you to death. Understanding resonance is, I think, one of the most important aspects of organic, and you're doomed if you don't. Beware, this book does not replace your textbook or instructor. All of the important equations such as alcohol, alkyne, and ketone synthesis are no where to be found in this book. This book really gives you the fundamentals that you need to understand orgo. That reason alone is enough to get it.

Optimization Concepts and Applications in Engineering

Ebook Download | Optimization Concepts and Applications in Engineering | This was the first book I read when I started learning about numerical optimization, a few years ago. I enjoyed the book so much that I purchased a second copy that I took with me on trips. The book covers various aspects of numerical optimization and includes QBasic source code listings in the book. The companion CD has additional QBasic source code and FORTRAN listings. The style is clear and easy to follow and is supported by numerous examples and graphs. In addition, the source code enforces the concepts presented by the authors. I congratulate the authors on doing a fine job in presenting the material. I sure hope that the authors come up with an updated version to give examples in Visual Basic .Net.

Security for Microsoft Windows System Administrators: Introduction toKey Information Security Concepts

Ebook Download | Security for Microsoft Windows System Administrators: Introduction to Key Information Security Concepts | The book is advertised for the Microsoft system administrator who needs, or wants, to build up a solid background in security concepts. They're illustrated with settings, options, and results from Windows. Most all of the figures in the book are essentially screenshots of Windows applications. There is some attempt at being platform agnostic, most notably in the cryptography introduction, but in the end this is a book for Windows sysadmins, and that's who will find it useful. To me it seemed very unlikely that the introductory material would all be new to the reader, but some fraction is likely to be.
