"The MD Anderson Manual of Medical Oncology"

Ebook Download | "The MD Anderson Manual of Medical Oncology" | The previous reviewer must have purchased only volume 1. The entire set is a 4 volume series, which comes together when you purchase the book. I found the text useful, and the chapters were written by world experts with a great deal of clinical expertise. I would recommend it as a reference to clinicians or to people studying for the boards.

King Solomon's Ring

Ebook Download | King Solomon's Ring | "Without supernatural assistance, our fellow creatures can tell us the most beautiful stories, and that means true stories, because the truth about nature is always far more beautiful even than what our great poets sing of it, and they are the only real magicians that exist." This book is wonderful in the original sense of that word, filled with wonder, and this quote from the Preface explains one reason this is so. Another reason is the sense that one is sitting peacefully on a pleasant evening while a true raconteur quietly meanders through his unexpectedly mesmerizing tales.
I originally picked up this book looking for material to liven up a natural history essay on shrews; those tiny overlooked but wide-spread creatures better known as metaphors than animals. This classic book from a legendary naturalist includes one of the very few bits of writing on shrews outside formal scientific literature. Surely, I thought, Lorenz would have something interesting to say. In fact, he had many interesting things to say on shrews. After finding that he could tell an entertaining and informative tale that brought these apparently unexciting animals to life on the page, I naturally had to start back at the beginning and read the book through.
Each chapter treats a different topic and can stands on its own. But read together they bring an understanding greater than their sum. Lorenz's skilled storytelling gradually reveals that what at first appeared to be many different threads are all actually part of one wonderful fabric.

Developing Children's Emotional Intelligence

Ebook Download | Developing Children's Emotional Intelligence | This is a great book for teachers. There are lots of practical ideas in it that are easy to put into place. I like the emphasis on building EQ into everyday situations but also making special time for it as well. The use of art and drama was very useful to me as I had not done this before with my children so I found that was another way for me to help them deal with the issues they are facing. The book is filled with interesting quotes which are very inspiring. The work of many of EQ's leaders is synthesized and written in a way that all teachers can benefit from. There are also reflective questions which help you as a teacher think about how much you are really doing to develop children's EQ.

The Washington Manual of Surgical Pathology

Ebook Download | The Washington Manual of Surgical Pathology | I liked this book very much. It is small in size but has a great fund of UPDATED knowledge. It doesn't have pictures or images in its printed format because I think the authors want to make the size of the book small to be handy and not heavy :-). It fits into the pocket of your lab coat. They put all the images in an electronic image bank. I liked the text part of the book as it is very comprehensive and contains the information I need on the sign out and when I want to check for some information quickly. It is really a great book for pathologists.

Duelling idiots and other probability puzzlers

Ebook Download | Duelling idiots and other probability puzzlers | Books on probability are often boring. (Remember all those tedious problems involving people obsessed with drawing balls from urns?). In "Duelling Idiots", Nahin actually makes the subject fun by describing offbeat problems with unexpected solutions. If you like solving math puzzles, then this is a great book to look at. If you're teaching a course and want to assign a book that students might actually read, then look no further.

http://downloadebookhere.blogspot.com

When Least Is Best

Ebook Download | When Least Is Best | Mr. Nahin states in his preface that 1st year undergraduate math and physics is enough to manage "a lot of mathematics in this book." He is fairly on the mark, discounting my comments about chapter six below. As usual, the reader must keep pencils and scrap paper ready to fully appreciate this book. I hoped to find a book based on applications of math and physics, an engineer's approach. This is one such fascinating book.
I was familiar with the AM-GM inequality technique to find extremas. However, Mr. Nahin dispenses of this method early and shows the reader so much more. And in this book, there is a constant exercise of looking at problems a different way. If you like geometric solutions along with the typical lines of algebraic manipulations, you'll love this book. The first five chapters are packed with problems and solutions with excellent graphic representations. Integration requirements increase throughout.
In finding extremas in chapter six, the author goes beyond ordinary calculus with the calculus of variations including the Euler-Lagrange differential equation and Beltrami's identity. The focus problem is the minimal decent time curve. It is in section 6.4 that the author truly breaks from his stated reader requirements of "high school algebra, trigonometry, and geometry, as well as the elementary integration techniques." I think most authors of this book's scope typically underestimate reader requirements. As for my part, I did not understand the calculus of variations technique on the first reading. After reading sections 6.4 through 6.8 again, I gained an appreciation of how the method works. After one more reading of these sections, I might know just enough to be dangerous. These challenging sections are well written, but a struggle within the stated reader requirements. In various cases, Mr. Nahin works through problems with results generated by computer programs. These are not my favorite problems because I lack access to the high end (very expensive) programs that he uses.
This book is well written and engaging; and it is easier to manage than An Imaginary Tale. This is my second book by Mr. Nahin, and I view him as a favorite author of technical books. In this review, I intentionally avoided mentioning specific problems covered because I do not want to spoil the surprises. I found them all quite fascinating. The reader will see so many real world physics in a different light. I highly recommend this book.

Cinematic game secrets for creative directors and producers: Inspiredtechniques from industry legends

Ebook Download | Cinematic game secrets for creative directors and producers: Inspired techniques from industry legends | Rather than reviewing my own book (of course I'm gonna give it five stars!), I'd rather tell you why I think you should buy my book. I have five reasons--all of them good. Here we go...
1. As a new/aspiring producer or creative director, it's important to know what it takes to make a new, successful game. In a word, it's making your game 'cinematic.' In more words, it means have a great story, compelling characters, and using sound cinematography techniques. There are chapters on all three of these subjects in the book.
2. You are studying game development/production. What do you know about filmmaking? Probably what you've seen on a few 'behind the scenes' DVD features and read in an 'independent' filmmaking book or two. Not only are aspects of filmmaking covered in my book--it's only the aspects that are relevant to you! And they're explained in that context.
3. Building cross-market appeal. You don't want to just create a game. You want to create a sensation! Books, movies, toys, etc. should be following in the wake of your title's success. How do these deals get made? By creating a truly cinematic game that grabs gamers and has mass popular appeal. Read the book to learn more!
4. You want to be independent. Lets face it, most game development is done as a form of insider trading. Programmers, artists...well, pretty much everyone...are all considered 'contractors' nowadays and jump from project to project, studio to studio, etc. It's all who you know. So you're going to create your own game. My book has chapters on independent game production, as well as making your game...You guessed it: Cinematic!
5. Finally, and lets face it, this is the best reason...The book rocks! It's basic in its approach, but technical when it needs to be. If you're a student, you're going to learn a lot about applying great techniques to your own personal production model. If you're a seasoned vet, you'll get more tools for the 'ole toolbelt. And don't forget, you're getting advice from some true masters of the game industry in this volume: Warren Spector, Noah Falstein, and Richard Rouse III just to name a few!

Color Atlas of Common Oral Diseases

Ebook Download | Color Atlas of Common Oral Diseases | This atlas has the advantage of having sections based on the appearance of the lesions, thus giving you an easy way to look at a group of lesions as you are narrowing down your diagnosis. Each named lesion has a heading for description, etiology, typical visual clues, the differential diagnosis, diagnostic steps, treatment recommendations, suggested follow-up, clincial significance, and other useful clinical information. The photographs are clear and very descriptive. Overall, this is an excellent reference text and it has the advantage of being remarkably reasonably priced considering the rest of the available options. It is also more user friendly and better organized as well. The spiral binding makes it easy to keep the book open while using it, and there are tabbed reference pages for the start of each section; the sections are white lesions, red lesions, ulcerated lesions, blistering/sloughing lesions, pigmented lesions, papillary lesions, and soft tissue enlargements. I returned the atlas that was required for my dental hygiene oral pathology class, and bought this one instead since it is the superior choice.

Learning XML

Ebook Download | Learning XML | I highly recommend this book if you know HTML and have some exposure to CSS; it's a good intro book to XML, which is what it's intended to be. The end result is that you'll know enough to get started with more technical books, and where to go for available web resources. The reasons that other people have given for not liking this book are some of the same reasons that I find it useful. I'm pretty well-versed in HTML and have some basic understanding of JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheets. This book goes into detail about both and gives comparisons and evolutions that involve XML. I'm about halfway through it at the moment, and it's giving me a clear, not-to-technical view of XML. The other books I have go straight into the code, telling me how but not really explaining the why of everything. That's what makes this book great to me. The first half deals with explanation and presentation, while the last half is more code-heavy. The two other books I have strive to be highly technical, but proved to be a bit overwhelming for me as a complete newbie to the subject of XML.

Graph Colouring and the Probabilistic Method

Ebook Download | Graph Colouring and the Probabilistic Method | This is definitely for someone who knows graph theory very well and wants to learn the powerful tool of "probabilistic method". As far as I know, this is the second book on the probabilistic method (the first one is by Alon and Spencer). It starts with some simple basic notions and gradually takes you to the heart of some deep (and complicated) results in graph theory. Although the technique can be used in different areas of combinatorics and theoretical computer science, almost all examples and problems in the book are related to graph theory (and specially graph coloring). One of the good points about this book is that they usually provide good intuitions for the proofs before going into their details. If you consider yourself a combinatorist or a theoretical computer scientist and you don't know much about this tool this
book is a good source.

The Blackwell Guide to Aesthetics

Ebook Download | The Blackwell Guide to Aesthetics | I read this book for a graduate seminar on the philosophy of art. This book is an excellent way to get a general idea of the vast field of philosophy of art. Aesthetics = philosophy of Art, thinking about art. Using writings from over fifty philosophers on art form Plato to Hans-Georg Gadamer gives the reader a great grounding in all of the philosophical theories of "what is art." The reader will find that how we engage art today is different then how the ancient Greeks did, art was embedded in a cultural context for them. Art was not in museums or in dance halls. Art is in a special zone of experience today in museums, etc. Tragedy for Greeks was part of their politics and religion, sculpture and painting the same way. Music until recently, (after the enlightenment) was for religion or some kind of official function. Philosophy tries to come up with theories about art; it may be a fool's errand. A set of principles that define and illuminates or explains the full measure of art is probably not attainable. However, just because a theory is wrong doesn't mean it has no value, we can draw import from all of them. By using excerpts from different philosophers the reader gets a good understanding of the major art movements.
My study has convinced me that Gadamer's hermeneutic circle is the most comprehensive and exciting theory of art that has made a real impression in the art world. I recommend this work for anyone interested in philosophy, philosophy of art. I strongly recommend Gadamer's "Truth and Method" for an in-depth understanding of the hermeneutic circle and its explanation of art.

Indigenizing the Academy: Transforming Scholarship and EmpoweringCommunities (Contemporary Indigenous Issues)

Ebook Download | Indigenizing the Academy: Transforming Scholarship and Empowering Communities (Contemporary Indigenous Issues) | In recent decades, American historians have significantly re-evaluated the role of Native Americans in the continent's history. Largely, of course, this was done by academics who were not themselves of that ethnicity. A roundabout way of saying that most were white, and male, for that matter. But there has also been an increasing number of Natives ascending the academic ladder. First as students, and then as faculty. A decades-long process. It has produced enough people, thus far, to enable the editors to put together this book. Here, the emphasis is not so much on changing a typical view of Natives in history, but instead on the academic environment itself, and how it impacts Natives trying to fit in. Which can be very difficult, as some articles in the book attest. A typical Native student might not have a family tradition of reaching college as a student, let alone as an academic.

Biostatistical Analysis (5th Edition)

Ebook Download | Biostatistical Analysis (5th Edition) | This book and BIOMETRY by Sokal and Rohlf are the two standard statistics books that live on the shelves of most biological researchers. Zar makes methods and interpretations of statistical analyses accessible and understandable. There are suffient numbers of statistical tests in the text to cover most of my statistical needs. The book also includes its own tables of critical values (something that BIOMETRY does not -- there's a paperback companion book of tables for that book). Zar also includes examples that are easy to follow, as well as enough mathematical background to allow one to understand the hypothetical and much of the mathematics behind the statistical methods. I typically turn to Zar first when I have a statistical question. This book continues to be a highly prized ally of mine in the data analysis game. I highly recommend this book to all biology grad students and researchers. It's well worth the price -- an investment that pays off!

Multirate Systems And Filter Banks: P. P. Vaidyanathan

Ebook Download | Multirate Systems And Filter Banks: P. P. Vaidyanathan | You'll get in this book a complete treatment of the theory of multirate systems and filter banks. The practical side is not the focus. The large number of examples and figures make it easy to follow (reading it from cover to cover is not that difficult). The intuition beyond the theory is well developed, at the expense of a light mathematical treatment. The geometrical and algebraic view provided by Vaidyanathan is unique and probably deserves to be taught in any DSP course for engineers, even at the introductory level. Signal processingpeople however could find its style too intuitive but engineers should like it as a reference book in these topics.

Mind at large

Ebook Download | Mind at large | Initially, I was doubtful of the existence of psi phenomena. My AP Psychology course gave me the impression that there was scant data to validate the field. However, knowing Dr. Harold Puthoff both personally and professionally, I was willing to put my doubt aside and investigate the work that he and others have conducted in parapsychology. Although a compilation of scientific reports first published in the 1970's at the IEEE Symposia On The Nature Of ESP, what I can say for certain after reading this book is that the studies compiled by Puthoff, Targ, and Tart, not only demonstrate that an anomalous statistical phenomena is occuring, but such works, especially the Targ-Puthoff remote viewing studies, such as "A Perceptual Channel for Information Transfer over Kilometer Distances, clearly dispel the flawed criticisms put forth by Ray Hyman in the National Research Council (NRC) evaluation of the CIA's 24 years in remote viewing research.

The studies conducted at Stanford Research Institute are clearly displayed, with the entire methodology presented. Counter arguements are even given towards the critiques that the studies, amazingly, continue to face from CSICOP and James Randi. And though I am member of CSICOP, this criticism through ignorance is very troubling to me. Replications of such studies are also presented in the work of Jahn and Dunne of the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research laboratory (PEAR), a group that I have recently become affiliated with. Various theories of psi are also presented in the works of Michael Persinger, Charles Tart, Helmut Schmidt and many others. After reading this book, it will be impossible to deny the existence of an anomalous statistical and possibly cognitive phenomena, without betraying one's intellectual honesty. This book is required reading for all who are interested and willing to evaluate parapsychology from a serious, scientific point of view.

Gender Differences at Critical Transitions in the Careers of Science,Engineering, and Mathematics Faculty

Ebook Download | Gender Differences at Critical Transitions in the Careers of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Faculty | Researched and presented by the independent, objective organization of the National Academies, National Gender Differences at Critical Transitions in the Careers of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Faculty is the congressionally mandated culmination of research into the career differences observable between female and male full-time, tenure-track, and tenured university professors of science, engineering, and mathematics. Drawing from a survey of random samples of roughly 1,800 faculty, as well as a departmental survey concerning policies, recent tenure, promotion cases, and recent hires in nearly 500 departments, Gender Differences reports its crucial findings in meticulous detail, and scholarly terms that are nonetheless accessible to readers who may not necessarily be familiar with advanced statistics. An exhaustive assembly of appendices rounds out this studious and insightful assessment - including copies of the surveys used, charts listing percentages and estimated probabilities, a bibliography, and an index.

Theory of Matrix Structural Analysis

Ebook Download | Theory of Matrix Structural Analysis | This book remains a great intellectual achievement, right up there with the works of Timoshenko. I've been able to write several quite useful programs using various element stiffness matrices spelled-out explicitly in this volume. Other books that I've read on F.E.M. seem to banter around the subject in obtuse mathematical terms. Przemieniecki derives ever step - and most importantly - he gives complete element stiffness matrices! I have copied very large 12 x 12 element stiffness matrices from this book into space frame and plate analysis programs that I've written with excellent results.
The book derives stiffness and dynamic matrices properties, essentially using the principle of minimization of potential energy. The book does not go into other types of problems such as heat-flow, torsion or fluid flow. But for structural engineers, like myself, I think that it's best to learn first the solution of stiffness problems to get a grasp of what F.E.M. is about.

Ebook Download | High Speed CMOS Design Styles | The book is very nicely written and has lots of practical tips, rule of thumbs which a practicing high speed CMOS circuit design engineer needs. Its conscise and works as good referance. The IBM authors wrote a concise reference manual on circuit design, process variation effects on circuits, and time borrowing. What is missing? Sections on sequential circuit design, transistor sizing techniques, or modeling circuits through mathematics, spice and verilog. The U.S. Congress: A Very Short Introduction

Ebook Download | The U.S. Congress: A Very Short Introduction | The government of the United States is divided into three branches - legislative, executive and judiciary. These branches are represented by Congress, the President and the Supreme Court. Even though in the public's mind the executive branch might appear to be the most important and powerful, it is the legislative branch to which the U.S. Constitution assigns the most important role. This stems from the idea that this is by far the most representative of all the branches of the federal government, and in some sense comes closest to reflecting the actual popular will. In light of that, anyone who is interested in understanding American domestic politics needs to know what exactly the role of Congress is, both as it is spelled out in the Constitution as well as how it operates in practice.
No single book can do justice to the entire history and its complexity of such an important subject, but this very short introduction provides the reader with a very good first step toward that end. The book tries to present an impartial view of the U.S. Congress by presenting its history and the evolving role that it has played in U.S. domestic policy. The book presents many vignettes and anecdotes that illustrate some of the more interesting themes. A lot of space is dedicated to the way that Congress operates in practice as opposed to its purely legal status within the federal government. In this respect, this is a very valuable book even for those who think they understand the operation of Congress fairly well from their civics classes. The book also dispels certain misconceptions that have been entrenched about workings of Congress. Another interesting aspect of this book concerns the comparisons between the U.S. Congress and a few other parliamentary bodies around the world, and the British Parliament in particular. Overall this is a very well organized book that provides an interesting read, and a useful primer on one of the most important political institutions in the world.

Quantum Methods with Mathematica

Ebook Download | Quantum Methods with Mathematica | Quantum methods with Mathematica is one of these concept books that combine a traditional subject with a new and powerfull way of presenting and analysing it. Quantum mechanics due to its mathematical nature is particuarly well suited for a Mathematica face-lift. I think the book is well suited for teaching undergraduate QM since you do things instead of just reading about them and that usually works with students. On a proffesional basis, it is not particularky well suited for heavy duty work but having said that to do such a thing would destroy its usefullness as a textbook. It can act as the starting point for more serious work with Mathematica and QM, and I would recommend it as a reference book or teaching aid with no hesitation.

Antonio's Gun and Delfino's Dream: True Tales of Mexican Migration

Ebook Download | Antonio's Gun and Delfino's Dream: True Tales of Mexican Migration | In 2002 Ruben Martinez published "Crossing Over: A Mexican Family on the Migrant Trail". The book did a wonderful job of telling the story about an extended family separated by the U.S.-Mexico border. Sam Quinones' book "Antonio's Gun and Delfino's Dream" is an equally compelling and well written, researched book. The three part story of Delfino Juarez is without comparison. Plus, the chapter on migrants from Atolinga, Zacatecas to Chicago who entered the non-Franchise fast food industry is GREAT. My only concern about the book is that Quinones sets out to tell tales about the things Mexican migrants (to the U.S.) want. Ok, generally speaking he succeeded. I was bothered by the fact that Sam seems to lose focus on migrants to the U.S. For example the book has chapters that address such topics as the rise of Opera in Tijuana, Velvet painting in Juarez, and drug smuggling into U.S. and Canada. While the chapters are facinating and well written, I felt these topics did not tie into Quinones' stated objective. Aside from this concern, Sam Quinones obviously poured his heart into the project. Kudos to him. A very good read!

Ebook Download | 5 Steps to a 5 AP Statistics, 2010-2011 Edition | The stats book provided by my school was hard to understand and used esoteric vocaulary that isn't necessary for the course so I immediately sought a review book. At first, I bought the Princeton Review, but soon realized that it wasn't satisfactory--it glossed over fundamental topics and didn't have good examples that replicated questions from the exam. I bought this book hoping that it would actually help, and it did. The examples/questions were exactly what they looked like on the exam and the questions had thorough explanations. It has rapid review sections, in case if you don't have time to read the entire section (although the sections aren't long).

Foundation Actionscript 3.0 with Flash CS3 and Flex

Ebook Download | Foundation Actionscript 3.0 with Flash CS3 and Flex | Like most of the friends of ED books on Flash and ActionScript, this book by Steve Webster, Todd Yard and Sean McSharry is a good book for the novice. Most beginner's books on ActionScript cover just the basics such as variables, loops and functions and don't go much further. However in this book, the authors go one step further and help the readers to extend their ActionScript skills for both Flash and Flex. The authors first discuss the development process for building an ActionScript project and dissect a simple bouncing ball example. The next chapter covers ActionScript fundamentals including variables, data types and constants. As you move on to objects, classes, inheritance and other aspects of OOP, you take a look at a sample iPod project.
The most interesting topics for me are the visual aspects of Flash. The authors cover everything from the Display list to movie playback. But they don't stop there. Next, they delve into the Graphics class and the drawing API. As you build a drawing application, you learn the essentials such as how to use ActionScript to draw line strokes and shape fills.
Steve Webster works as a developer at Yahoo and has contributed to several Flash-related books. Todd Yard is a software architect at Brightcove in Cambridge, Massachusetts and has contributed to several Flash-related books. Sean McSharry is an Adobe Certified Flash Developer and Designer and a prerelease tester for many Adobe products.

Eric J Chaisson, "Epic of Evolution: Seven Ages of the Cosmos"

Ebook Download | Eric J Chaisson, "Epic of Evolution: Seven Ages of the Cosmos" | This book is an updated look, using the most recent theories of the history of the Cosmos. It takes about half the book to get to the formation of the earth, made out of heavier elements that were cooked in the atmospheres of stars, and to the point where chemistry could begin. After that he looks at the evidence of the smallest and earliest ancient cells left in the fossil record. After the transition has been made to where life exists he describes the growth from the very beginnings to the changes that have made mankind.
Through the whole book he describes and illustrates the basic scientific method where a theory is established, it is tested by experinent and observation and finally modified as needed to meet the changed data. To be valid, the theory must also predict unknown things. As you examine the theory, you move along to get to the next step, and if evidence is found to support the prediction the theory is considered better and better. This description alone sets this book apart from many others.

Professional Visual Basic 2008

Ebook Download | Professional Visual Basic 2008 | I certainly have not gone through all 1420 pages of this book, but I did go through several chapters in detail. As an example, I went through the chapter on SQLCE. This was an excellent presentation for someone familiar with Visual Studio and VB.Net but would not be good for a beginner. The book is excellent if you are a seasoned programmer and not good for those starting out. The book's title says it all! I f you want to learn the more advanced features of VB.Net and have a good understanding of the basics, this is the book for you.

Origins: How the Planets, Stars, Galaxies, and the Universe Began

Ebook Download | Origins: How the Planets, Stars, Galaxies, and the Universe Began | I read a lot of science literature and can say without a doubt that this is one of the best pieces of Science writing I've come across. Dr. Eales does an INCREDIBLE job of taking very complicated concepts and processes and making them seem oh-so-simple and enjoyable. If this is how he runs his classes his students are VERY fortunate. If you are interested in space - from any planet in our solar system to stars we can't even see - this book is for you.

Essential ASP.NET With Examples in C#

Ebook Download | Essential ASP.NET With Examples in C# | I've ordered this book primarily based on rave reviews of fellow webloggers as well as the fact that every single book from AW .NET series was worth the money. This book did not disappoint. Fritz has found the right to mix of giving the reader the theory and practical advice. The author assumes that the reader is familiar with .NET and is experienced in application design (I soooo wish more authors would make the same assumption!).

This book gives an experienced developer enough background to be able to make some of the most important design decisions such as when and how to separate presentation logic in custom controls; how to manage state; what data caching option to use etc. The flow of Essential ASP.NET is absolutely impeccable. Every detail and feature of the technology is introduced at exactly the right place. I liked the flow of the book so much I've used it to put together a presentation on ASP.NET for our team.

Windows Forms Programming in Visual Basic .NET

Ebook Download | Windows Forms Programming in Visual Basic .NET | Before I rave about this title, let me start with a caveat. This is not a beginner's "Learn VB.NET" or "Learn to Program" book - it's for intermediate to advanced programmers. That being said, this is a great book for anyone who actually needs to do _real_work_ (shudder) with Windows Forms. Unlike a lot of books out there, this isn't a huge tome that rehashes the MSDN docs or goes into all the minutiae of Microsoft's latest GUI framework. Instead, Mr. Sells has condensed much of his deep knowledge of WinForms into these chapters, detailing many of the traps you need to avoid - and tricks you'll need to use - if you want to create WinForms apps that do more than just say "hello world". The author is a true expert on Windows Forms. I don't know how he did it, but he knows stuff - key stuff - that you can't find in any of the written docs from Microsoft. He shares this vital information in a style that is both logical and concise. IMO, if you need to build WinForms apps, this book will return the money you spend on it many times over.

Meta-Physician on Call for Better Health: Metaphysics and Medicine forMind, Body and Spirit

Ebook Download | Meta-Physician on Call for Better Health: Metaphysics and Medicine for Mind, Body and Spirit | It is so rare that you find a physician who cares about your soul as much as he does your physical health... but that is what Dr. Steven Hodes is all about. His message is that we all must learn to take charge of our own healing and well-being. In a series of easy to follow chapters that are like his prescriptions for living, he imparts snippets of wisdom on a wide range of topics --from explaining metaphysics and healing, to sharing his controversial view that death is not the big deal we make it into in this culture. He also shares his very interesting research into the world of guidance from "the other side" and other Extraordinary Phenomenon. He believes our understanding of the spiritual dimension to reality can heal us. He has a way of sharing insights that is very empowering and easy to understand!

Television Disrupted: The Transition from Network to Networked TV

Ebook Download | Television Disrupted: The Transition from Network to Networked TV | As someone who works for a major cable network, I can tell you that Shelly Palmer does a great job of breaking down the digital and linear distribution marketplace in this book. He is able to clearly outline the major strategic operators of multiple media distribution channels. Old media and New media have changing distribution structures that content providers are well aware of. Monetizing the new realties of distribution is at the forefront of most content providers as new revenue streams become more valuable to operating success. For anyone looking for a clear synopsis of why network distribution is changing and what might be around the corner, give Television Disrupted a read.

Building (Eyewitness Books)

Ebook Download | Building (Eyewitness Books) | Like another reviewer here, I was absolutely stunned at the amount of information if reference to buildings that the author was able to pack into this one. The book explores different building styles from around the world. The photos and drawings are of top rate quality and just to flip through the book, examining the pictures is worth the price of the book along. The illustrations and photos though, are just part of the total story of this book. The work examins, often in detail, how different parts of different structures are build, i.e. doors, windows, walls, fire places, chimneys, columns, arches (concept), thatching, roofs, painting/tile, supports, materials decorations and much, much more. The text is wonderful. Even though this is classified as a childrens book, it is actually much more, although, most kids seem to love it. This is a wonderful addition to a wonderful series and I certainly highly recommend it.

Art Therapy for Groups: A Handbook of Themes and Exercises

Ebook Download | Art Therapy for Groups: A Handbook of Themes and Exercises | I own and use this book so often in my Art Therapy groups that this book is flooded with Post It notes. I do adapt most of the activity suggestions to make them fit each client population. The book is flexible and could be applied to youth, teen, or adult/senior populations. It is written and indexed in an easy-to-read manner based on the mode of therapy practiced. The suggestions themselves are general enough however do conveniently elaborate with bullet-marked suggestions for different ways to try out the various activities. So if you think you've worked with clay, perhaps you have not written an acoustic poem about it and then created an environment for the sculpture, etc. Several variations and ideas were new and fresh. Great book for the novice or for the seasoned professional who needs some help getting new ideas sparked up and fueled; a quick, easy (and relatively inexpensive) A.T. reference.

The Unknowable (Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science)

Ebook Download | The Unknowable (Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science) | Chaitin is not a modest writer, but then given his personal contribution to the field he discusses here, there's no reason why he should be. This book is not an easy read for the layperson (I know, I am one) but does reward perseverance. The beauty of "The Unknowable" is that it allows the reader to understand the points Chaitin makes by working through the important proofs by famous thinkers such as Godel and Turing (and ,of course, Chaitin). It's a great feeling to walk in the footsteps of giants such as these - and to understand the conlusions rather than accept them as received wisdom. My only reservation is that the chapter introducing the reader to LISP is fairly dense and tough to follow. However I found that reading the first couple of chapters of Friedman and Felleisen's "Little LISPer" made it more comprehensible - and LL is a great book anyway. I'd thoroughly recommend this book to readers with an interest in the Philosophy of Mathematics who do not necessarily have an in-depth mathematical background.
