Digital Image Processing Using MATLAB

Ebook Download | Digital Image Processing Using MATLAB | If you want to get up to speed on Matlab and plan to use it for image processing, this book is a must.
I have lots of experience in computer graphics and in programming languages like C++ and C#, but prior to reading this book I had never really used Matlab nor implemented complicated image processing algorithms. This book is a great introduction to both.
The book is divided in twelve chapters touching both low-level image processing (e.g. spatial filtering) and higher-level concepts required for computer vision, like image registration and segmentation. Gonzalez et al are talented writers, explaining relatively complicated concepts clearly and concisely, without getting lost in the mathematical details. People interested in the more theoretical aspects should (and probably already have) check their other book.
The only potential downside of this book is that it's definitely designed to be read sequentially, one chapter at a time. The matlab concepts are introduced piece by piece. For example, if you skip Chapter 5 (on image restoration, i.e. getting rid of noise) you may not realize that you missed the introduction to the image registration functions. Personally I liked this style (it added variety to a potentially dry subject), but a reader with less time to cover all of the matter may find this to be a problem.

Applied Numerical Methods with MATLAB for Engineering and Science w/Engineering Subscription Card (re)

Ebook Download | Applied Numerical Methods with MATLAB for Engineering and Science w/ Engineering Subscription Card (re) | This is a well-written book that provides a nice, concise introduction to numerical methods. As with other books by this author, it is very student friendly and should be particularly useful for people, like myself, who use it for self-study. I was not familiar with MATLAB prior to using the book. This book made it relatively easy for me to pick up the fundamentals and then implement numerical solutions. As a computer scientist, I also liked the emphasis placed on the development of M-files. My only criticism is that I wish the book covered more material. I hope that the author expands it in future editions.

Antenna and EM Modeling with Matlab

Ebook Download | Antenna and EM Modeling with Matlab | It is a good book. Covers most types of antennas and arrays. The book deals with the method of moment (MoM) for EM modeling. Most formulas used are referenced to usefull articles and books. It is a good idea to have the ref [1] in chapter 2, as a chapter at beginning of this book.

Mechanics of Composite Materials with MATLAB

Ebook Download | Mechanics of Composite Materials with MATLAB | We are writing this review of the book as our response as authors to the other review posted on this page. This book is intended to be an introductory text for students and beginners of Mechanics of Composite Materials. The presentation is simple and brief. Furthermore, it is accompanied by a CD-ROM that has numerous MATLAB functions that can be used to do the basic calculations in this subject. And we stress that we emphasize the basic calculations with no attempt to introduce advanced topics.
It is true that the calculations in this book could also be done using EXCEL. However, it is not straightforward and very difficult to perform some of these calculations in EXCEL. In fact, EXCEL is not designed to handle matrices and matrix operations like MATLAB. The choice of MATLAB for this book is based on the fact that MATLAB is a Matrix Laboratory - it was specifically designed to handle matrices and matrix operations. And we know that these types of calculations are exactly those encountered in Mechanics of Composite Materials. Thus MATLAB and not EXCEL is the right choice for this kind of book. We feel that we are fully justified in leaving out the detailed presentation of these advanced topics of this book. Again, the book is intended for students and beginners who do not seek these advanced topics in an introductory book like ours. Finally, we should note that we included the complete Solutions Manual to most of the problems in the book at the end of the book and also on the accompanying CD-ROM. The rest of the book is a printout of the Solutions Manual which some people may erroneously perceive as MATLAB output.
