Ebook Download | Brian Proffitt - Take Your IPad to Work | Right off the bat one thing that struck me about this book is how current it is, even listing Best Buy as Apple's iPad partner retailer and saying that Apple has a seven to ten day backlog in filling iPad orders. But I wonder how it'll be in say, a month from now, or two or six. Still, as of this writing, this book is very up to date.
The second thing I noticed is that this book isn't only for those who are considering using their iPad in a business environment. If you know nothing about the iPad or its interface, but are considering getting one, this book will get you up and running as the first third of the book is devoted to introducing the iPad and interfacing with it, from how to find and use apps to using Safari and Mail.
The book goes on to show you how to work with Apples applications, Pages and Keynote, and how to print from the iPad. You'll learn how to use Apple's MoblieMe and how to use the iPad with FaceBook and Twitter and of course, there are various examples of how you can use the iPad in the work environment. In short, for now I believe, this is the definitive book on the iPad, but I'm afraid they're going to have to keep coming out with updates fairly rapidly if they want to stay current.

This book is logically organized, giving the reason you need both in case you hadn't looked into that concept yet, it gives you a list of features for each suite with a description of what you can accomplish with each, and this book helps you get the most out of those suites by giving lots of tips, all the alternative ways of accomplishing things, snares to watch out for, ideas for achieving the best result, shortcut keys and a list of those on-screen, the limits of what you can and can't do with certain features, and as you might expect, there are lots and lots of pictures so you can see where things are situated and how to work everything. Another area where this book really shines is that it doesn't assume anything regarding your knowledge of the suites discussed. You can be brand new to the suites, and you get an easy-to-understand, step-by-step tutorial. (Not new to the concept of post-production, of course-it is assumes you know what you're doing there, but it's suitable for people brand new to these editing suites.) I found the sprinkling of humor throughout the book a nice addition as well.

This is a quality book throughout with lots of "how-to's" in it. I am glad that I made the purchase. This is an intermediate book that assumes you know at least a little about telescopes and astronomy. Many good pictures. Made with quality materials.

Ebook Download | Rapid Review Gross and Developmental Anatomy, 3 edition | This book was extremely helpful for preparing for the NBME gross anatomy shelf exam. It has standard outlines of stuff you need to know and lots of pertinent clinical situations too.
I also have a recent past edition of BRS gross, and this book was far better. There are two practice exams at the end of the book with organized, detailed explanations, and the questions were very similar to those on the shelf exam. This book also uses pink ink to enhance the text, which is written in black. I would definitely recommend this book as a comprehensive review source.

Sure, I could complain about a couple of things:
1. some chapters feel like they are (somewhat) updated versions from the previous edition (which they are!), and
2. some minor topics are not explained, as if it was assumed that the reader would know what it was. No, there weren't too many of those.

In addition to the code examples, I appreciated Cederholm's "progressive enrichment," "re-evaluation of past methods and best practices," "80 percenters," "fluid grids," and "craftsmanship."
"Progressive enrichment," for example, uses the border-radius property to achieve the visual reward of rounded corners on buttons in browsers that can handle them with CSS. The site displays attractively in all browsers with square corners on buttons in browsers not progressive enough to display the rounded corners. This example also illustrates "re-evaluation of past methods and best practices." Rounded corners on buttons can be achieved with graphics, but they lock in color which can only be changed be manipulating the images. With progressive enrichment, the button colors can be changed easily in the CSS.

I have been looking fruitlessly for a copy for some years, having eventually had to return a loan copy. I am delighted that it is available again. Organised as a collection of relatively short essays, this has a legitimate claim to be the outstanding book of the 20th century for anyone interested in mind, change, evolution, systems thinking, ecology, epistemology, organisations, therapy and more. Be warned - it can be very dense in places, but the effort is worth it. On the right day it's really stimulating - on a bad day, I'd read something easier! 'Form, Substance and Difference', 'Conscious Purpose versus Nature' and 'The Logical Categories of Learning and Communication' are absolutely central texts for anyone considering how we need to respond to the current world crisis. Other key papers include 'The cybernetics of "Self": A theory of alchoholism' and 'Social Planning and the Concept of Deutero Learning'. If you work in the field of Organisational Development you will probably be familiar with some of the content through the many writers who have built on Bateson's work. Fritjof Capra writes about him a great deal. The original is best though.

It's true that it's written for korn, but I've had little trouble adapting for Bash; many of the scripts run almost unchanged and the ones that don't provide a useful opportunity for exercise in adaptation. The authors prose is clear. His attitude is a bit challenging; he says early on that that his intention is to teach you how to -solve problems- by shell scripting, NOT to present a ream of canned solutions. This is NOT a reference text for any particular shell, you'll still need plenty of O'Reilly books, a web browser & etc.
This book has enabled me to write a major project using scripting as the glue to hold together a hefty mass of file-moving daemons, fax/paging engines, python UI code, PostGreSQL database engine, networking/email, SSH, and Expect scripts on a Gnu Linux platform. I absolutely could not have done it without this book and I'm very grateful to Mr Michael for his work.

Ebook Download | HTML5 Step by Step | HTML5 Step by StepHTML5 Step by Step is a good introduction to HTML for the complete novice. "Step by Step" is literally the approach taken in the book, with explicit instructions for each action to be taken. I would not hesitate to recommend this as a first text for the business or hobby user; experienced HTML authors or developers looking for cutting-edge HTML5 features should look elsewhere.
The book uses a Microsoft landscape, so the editing tool of choice is Notepad, and the browser absorbing the most attention is Internet Explorer 9. Users of other operating systems can use the text, but they'll need to be savvy enough to translate the Microsoft terminology to their own platform ( which might be beyond the abilities of a true beginner ). Following the example code using Ubuntu and vi, I did not experience any significant problems. HTML authoring tools are not covered in order to focus on the underlying HTML building blocks.
Since the instructions provided for the accompanying exercises are so explicit, they consume a great deal of print real estate. That does not leave much room for advanced features of HTML5, and you won't find those here. Hence, once you complete the exercises, this isn't a book you'll retain for reference. Ebook Download | Sam Kauffmann, "Avid Editing: A Guide for Beginning and Intermediate Users" (Fourth Edition) | Recently, I took a one week Avid Course at geniusDV and found Sam Kauffmann's book a welcome addition to what I learned in the course. Sam reviews all the basic operations that should get a beginner started; and it should be a valuable resource, as well, for the intermediate video editor who needs to look up a thing or two. Avid has an enormous amount of options of how to do things that can be overwhelming to the beginner. Sam offers a common sense basic approach that enable the beginner to edit successfully in a short time. The references he adds are helpful, especially after one grabs the basic concepts. Avid used to be the high-end editing application for Pros. It is becoming more available for consumers, and books like Sam Kauffmann's should accelerate that process.
