Mastering Unix Shell Scripting: Bash, Bourne, and Korn Shell Scriptingfor Programmers, System Administrators, and UNIX Gurus

Ebook Download | Mastering Unix Shell Scripting: Bash, Bourne, and Korn Shell Scripting for Programmers, System Administrators, and UNIX Gurus | The breadth of real-world examples make the difference between this book and most reference texts. It's true that it's written for korn, but I've had little trouble adapting for Bash; many of the scripts run almost unchanged and the ones that don't provide a useful opportunity for exercise in adaptation. The authors prose is clear. His attitude is a bit challenging; he says early on that that his intention is to teach you how to -solve problems- by shell scripting, NOT to present a ream of canned solutions. This is NOT a reference text for any particular shell, you'll still need plenty of O'Reilly books, a web browser & etc.
This book has enabled me to write a major project using scripting as the glue to hold together a hefty mass of file-moving daemons, fax/paging engines, python UI code, PostGreSQL database engine, networking/email, SSH, and Expect scripts on a Gnu Linux platform. I absolutely could not have done it without this book and I'm very grateful to Mr Michael for his work.

Mastering Windows 2000 Programming With Visual C

Ebook Download | Mastering Windows 2000 Programming With Visual C | However, reading the book has been fairly unsatisfactory. The author doesnt seem to know whether his reader is a beginning C++ programmer who unfamiliar with Windows programming, or whether his reader is an experienced developer, well-exposed to MFC and Visual C++. "Windows 2000 for Dummies" to snippets of MFC code that are near useless without installing and reviewing the full code that come on the CD, and probably incomprehensible to a novice.

Mastering Microsoft Exchange Server 2010

Ebook Download | Mastering Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 | The best thing about the book is that it still serves as a great introduction to managing an Exchange organization, while also going into detail on newer technologies. It has lots of examples and a good balance of text to screen-captures. That really helps when you're trying to get others up-to-speed on the basic technology. The chapters on management tools and recipient administration (users, groups, etc...) provides the right amount of detail for quick reference and those who need training. The chapter on client access servers (CAS) is useful, especially on the area of setting up CAS servers during a migration. There is also an entire chapter on SharePoint integration. Just skimming these chapters can answer a lot of questions. The book is over 900 pages, but it is still missing a few topics I'd like to read more about, such as setting up database availability groups (DAGs) and best practices for ensuring high availability. If you want DAG coverage, this book is not for you. I would also like to see more step-by-step migration recommendations or a chapter that covers a migration, point-by-point, from start to finish. A chapter on certificates might be nice as well. On the whole, though, the book is very good, easy to read, and is useful to those with a range of pre-existing knowledge.
