Organized Crime (9th Edition)

Ebook Download | Organized Crime (9th Edition) | I am a college professor who just finished teaching ORGANIZED CRIME to twenty college juniors and seniors. I selected Abadinsky's book as the text because it is carefully and thoughtfully "choreographed." The information provided flows in a sensible and clearly written design. Some texts appear to be designed for Rhodes Scholars and are virtually impossible to read. This is not the case with this great book! I recommend it to teachers and those who have in interest in this fascinating subject.

Networks and Netwars: The Future of Terror, Crime, and Militancy

Ebook Download | Networks and Netwars: The Future of Terror, Crime, and Militancy | This is the best 'network theory' book I've read. The book is a collection, and the 'field work' is more enthusiastic than thought provoking. Binding together the fieldwork, at front and back, is the analysis of Arquilla and Ronfeldt. Though only 20% of the text, their comments make the reading exceptionally rewarding. The deep dynamic guiding Arquilla and Ronfeldt's analysis is that the information revolution favors the rise of network forms of organization and thus redefines cooperation and conflict. According to their terminology, the really bad side is 'cyberwar', an earlier book. 'Netwar' is a more ambiguous form of network conflict, one that can be used by social activists for the benefit of all. While I find their scholarship excellent, I'm less than sanguine regarding our ability to distinguish enthusiasm from cohersion.

The term netwar calls attention to the prospect of network-based conflict becoming pervasive at all levels of social interaction. Just as romance is now streamlined by online match-makers, so too will the new technologies enhance and focus aggression, both the good and bad kind. According to the authors, 'Netwar' is a form of 'just warfare.' Most of the book covers examples of non-violent, democratic netwar-warriors.There is a brief review of traditional crime going online for drug distribution efficiencies, but most is devoted to friendly political activists ranging from Zapatistas to anti-globalists.

Cyber Crime Investigator's Field Guide

Ebook Download | Cyber Crime Investigator's Field Guide | I found this book to be fantastic. Whether you are an experienced investigator of computer network security incidents (as I am for government/military/commercial organizations) or a neophyte just getting into the field of computer forensics, this book takes you through everything you need to know. The chapter on how the author handles an investigation in detail from start to finish is great. I'm applying what I learned there already. The coverage of forensic tools such as EnCase and tools from NTI is great. He gives me step by step information on how to use these tools, which I really need because you can't remember everything to do with all the tools I am involved with. The various reference sections on web sites, tool sites, attack signatures, etc. has been extremly useful for me and various organizations I work with. It's great to have the DOJ Search & Seizure Guidelines in the book. Sure, I can go out to the DOJ website and after some searching find them, but it is difficult to work through all the various links, I can't take notes there, make underlines, etc. It's really nice to have these and other guidelines in a handy written reference. This is one book that goes with me and my team members whenever we leave for a client site. It has just about everything we need for reference purposes. The author calls it a field guide and that is just what it is. I highly recommend this book. Very practical. I just hope the author is going to write another book...no doubt we will pick it up.

Wireless Crime and Forensic Investigation

Ebook Download | Wireless Crime and Forensic Investigation | This book was an excellent edition to my forensic library and knowledge. I respect the author for tackling such a broad topic as wireless and feel the overall scope view was helpful. I have done a lot of cellular forensics and this was great to see some of the practices I have been taught and do put into print. I would recommend this book to those looking to get started in this area and learn what is possible.
